About

We were all very sorry to hear the news that one of our most vibrant and passionate founders, Paul Hinkin of Black Architecture, has passed away.  We have lost the best kind of colleague and friend.  Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

What we are

The Feeling Good Foundation is a hub for research and best practice on wellbeing in the built environment. It aims to identify the value of wellbeing, develop and promote knowledge from industry and academia, develop guidelines and advocate wellbeing within built environment policy. It is a source of expertise for industry leaders seeking to integrate wellbeing as a standard outcome on projects.

Our History

The Feeling Good Foundation was set up in early 2013 by The Building Centre Trust and Grigoriou Interiors in response to a strongly expressed desire by the industry to learn more about what enhances wellbeing in the built environment.

It initially started as a series of events organised by Gardiner and Theobald and Grigoriou Interiors in 2011, that took place at The Building Centre called the  ‘Feeling Good Conversations’:

Moving from a series of talks to setting up the Feeling Good Foundation

It was felt that this subject of the relationship between the built environment and wellbeing was being subsumed in the welter of information being produced about sustainability and particularly energy, often at the expense of beneficial outcomes on behalf of the owners and users of buildings.

Evidence Based Design (EBD) is now well accepted in healthcare architecture, but there is a need to examine how this research can provide long term benefits for the end-users in other sectors. By applying EBD to places of work, schools and homes, the industry has the chance to increase and sustain wellbeing for all.

Many design factors – acoustics, air quality, colour, lighting and furnishings can have a calculable impact on building occupants and ultimately the client’s financial bottom line. Job satisfaction, increased productivity, higher occupancy/lower absenteeism can result from applying knowledge that derives from an increasing body of research in this field

Resulting from this, it was felt that there was a need to have an organisation that could capture and disseminate the resulting information as well as increasing the store of knowledge about wellbeing within the industry.

The Feeling Good Foundation aims to act as a repository of the best and latest research, a hub for developing and promoting new ideas from the industry and academia, and a source of expertise for industry leaders seeking to take innovative practices mainstream.

Today

The business case for wellbeing is becoming established and our intention is to move the industry to what specialists have known for some time:  sustainable environments yield high dividends across organisations in terms or engagement, health and productivity. It is not only the right thing it is also the smart thing.
